Michigan Capital Day
In Collaboration With
The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) hosts a yearly legislative summit in Washington, DC. In 2024, over 100 participants engaged in discussions with U.S. Senators, Representatives, and their staff to advocate for policy improvements related to the business travel industry, such as sustainable aviation practices and visa processing reforms.
The topics covered with elected officials this year included:
- Visa Improvements
- Decarbonizing Air Travel
- GBTA U.S. Business Travel Economic Impact Study Info Sheet
- U.S. Policy Priorities
After years of experiencing the benefits of an event such as this, GBTA Michigan decided to host its own legislative summit: to bring to Michigan members the issues that impact business travel and how to collectively raise our voice to influence positive change.
Of particular interest to us are the state of Michigan airports. Some of the recent headlines include:
- WOOD TV8 reported on the aging air traffic control tower at Gerald R. Ford International Airport, highlighting the need for updates to keep up with increased traffic and future growth. Click here to view the report.
- Expansion plan set for Cherry Capital Airport, awaits further steps. Click here to view the report.
- New Ford Airport sensory room aims to soothe travelers. Click here to view the report.
- State of Michigan awards $6M in total funding to four AAM projects. Click here to view the report.
Event Objective:
GBTA Michigan members will hear directly from airport executives about the realities of airport operations, funding challenges, and air service development. After the panel, we’ll head to the Capitol to discuss our concerns with elected officials.
